The contract approval was unanimous to begin construction on improvements for Phase 1 the Roland G. Parrish Park. A formal meeting was held at Dallas City Council on Wednesday Jan 22nd for the vote. While the initial naming and ceremonial groundbreaking of the park took place in November of 2023, an initiative was introduced to expand the funding of the park in Oak Cliff.
The Parrish Park Project will cover 25 acres, with the Dallas Park and Recreation Department delivering a Ten Million Dollar capital improvement investment. The breakdown of the investment includes a one-million-dollar donation from Parrish, along with four million from the Dallas Equity Fund and three million form the Dallas Infrastructure Investment Fund.
Newly elected Dallas City Manager Kimberly Tolbert was present for the vote, and her team will oversee the Parrish Park Project. Amenities for the park will include a walking trail system, a pavilion with picnic tables, a playground, a basketball court with benches and bleacher seating and a football field surrounded by a track, along with many other additions.
Roland Parrish has always been passionate about athletics and staying active. This project will allow citizens from ages two to ninety-two in this underserved and underinvested community the opportunity stay active beginning in the winter of 2025. As for Phase 2, the groundbreaking is scheduled take place in early 2026. For the official press release, click here.
