PARRISH INDUCTED INTO 2026 TBSHOF CLASS

The induction of Roland Parrish into the Texas Black Sports Hall of Fame (TBSHOF) on March 7, 2026, was a rare “full-circle” moment that celebrated him as both an elite athlete and the savior of the institution itself. While many know him as the mogul behind 20+ North Texas McDonald’s franchises, his enshrinement highlights a legacy built on speed, tenacity, and extraordinary generosity.

Pro Football Hall of Famer Drew Pearson made the surprise announcement, with Russell Maryland, Ed ‘Too Tall’ Jones, Everson Walls, and Eugene Lockhart on stage.Parrish was visibly surprised as he was surrounded by some of the greatest Dallas Cowboys.

The Athlete: A Record-Breaking Foundation

Parrish was inducted for a track career that set the standard at Purdue University and high school levels:

  • Purdue Legend: A six-time Big Ten champion and two-time team MVP, Parrish set 11 records during his collegiate career. His 1,000-meter indoor record (2:21.9), established in 1975, remains unbroken over 50 years later.
  • Indiana Speed: Before his collegiate success, he was an All-American and the 1971 Indiana state champion in the 800-meter run.

The "Contributor": Saving a Legacy

Parrish’s induction also recognized his critical role as a “Contributor” who ensured the Hall of Fame’s survival:

  • Emergency Sponsorship: In 2008, when the TBSHOF faced potential closure after losing its primary corporate backer, Parrish’s foundation stepped in as the title sponsor-a commitment that has lasted nearly two decades.
  • Institutional Support: Through the Parrish Charitable Foundation, he has donated millions to sports and education, including a $250,000 commitment to the Charley Pride Fellowship with the Texas Rangers to increase minority representation in front offices.

The Man Behind the Honor

The ceremony at the Renaissance Dallas Hotel was particularly personal, as Parrish was inducted alongside legendary figures like Lovie Smith and Rolando Blackman. His son, CBS Texas anchor Ro Parrish, shared the moment publicly, noting that his father’s story is one of “rejection and redemption”-from a student-athlete library regular to the namesake of Purdue’s Management and Economics Library.
