Since 2018, the Parrish charitable foundation along with the Dallas Urban Debate Alliance or DUDA, has bridged the gap for underserved communities. DUDA, an organization consisting of attorneys, support developing skills needed for debate in underserved communities. This partnership connects those communities, creating an introduction to the world of verbal sparring. Students learning to create factual, logical, ethical, and emotional arguments to persuade others in the club that their perspective is correct. Or in simpler terms; debate. Since its inception, the PCF is approaching 100k in scholarship funds awarded to these student debaters, all from DISD. Those participating develop elevated levels of self-confidence, strengthen their diction and public speaking skills, all while working as a team for one common goal. Not to mention performing under pressure. These students are generally viewed favorably by college admission committees.
